Your first class · Aloe Pilates, San Jose

Your first class, step by step.

Fifty minutes, five or ten reformers, and one instructor who sets you up and adjusts everything to your level. Here is what to pick, what to bring, and what happens when you walk in.

Five steps, start to finish

  1. Pick a class

Level 1 Foundation is the ideal place to start. Studio A classes have five reformers and cost $50; Main Studio classes hold up to ten and cost $45, and the weekly schedule marks which is which. Classes run after 5 PM Monday to Thursday, the latest starting at 7:30 PM, plus three each Saturday and Sunday morning. See the weekly schedule, then reserve on Vagaro.

    • $10 off your first class with code ALOE10 at checkout. Excludes pre-certified classes.
    • Rather start one-on-one? A private session is $120, with $20 off your first when you call or text, or $79 with an instructor completing our advanced training.
  2. Wear the right things

    • Grip socks are required, for safety and hygiene on the moving carriage. Bring a pair to every class.
    • Bottoms: high-waisted leggings, bike shorts or slim-fit joggers, snug enough to stay put during inversions and leg work.
    • Tops: fitted tanks, racerbacks or tucked-in tees, so nothing rides up during footwork or bridging.
    • Avoid baggy shorts and anything with zippers or metal hardware, which can scratch the reformer.
  3. Get here

860 S Winchester Blvd, Suite A, San Jose, near Santana Row. Park free at the back; turn in from Neal Ave. The studio is wheelchair accessible. Arrive about ten minutes early and bring water. Directions.

  4. In class

Your instructor sets up your reformer and walks you through the equipment before you start. Classes are 50 minutes with one instructor and five or ten people, so every cue is adjusted to the person on the carriage. Say what you need, in English or Mandarin.

  5. After your first class

Once you are comfortable, the schedule also has Level 1.5+ and Pilates Flow classes. If you want a routine, monthly memberships start at $165 for four classes a month, with no contract and 30 days’ notice to cancel; class passes valid four months are the pay-as-you-go option. Most corporate wellness stipends and Lifestyle Spending Accounts reimburse classes, and Vagaro emails an itemized receipt. Compare memberships and passes.

Cancellation

Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours ahead so the spot can go to someone on the waitlist. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full class price, per the booking policy on Vagaro.

Questions people ask

Do I need any Pilates experience?
No. Level 1 Foundation classes are built for first-timers, and your instructor sets up the reformer and explains the equipment before class starts. If you would rather learn one-on-one first, book a private session.
Which room should I pick?
Studio A (five reformers, $50) gives you the most attention. The Main Studio (up to ten, $45) has more energy and room to bring a friend. Same method, same instructors.
Can I come with a friend?
Yes. Book two spots in the same class, or book a duet: one instructor, two of you, $160 for the session.
How do I book?
Online through Vagaro. No account with us is needed; Vagaro handles it. Enter code ALOE10 at checkout for $10 off your first class.
What if I have an injury or I am pregnant?
Check with your doctor first, then tell your instructor before class; every exercise can be modified. Our team includes a chiropractor and an occupational therapist. See Pilates for rehab and prenatal.
